Potty Training!! The two words every parents cringes when they say. Somehow a normal rite of passage has become the scariest part of a toddlers life. I’m not saying it’s scary of the toddler, no it’s fun for them, it’s scary for the parent who is lucky enough to be faced with the task. At times it can also be funny. I’m sure any parent who has potty trained was just as nervous as the toddler, but then at the end was laughing at the newly claimed funny stories of their experience. It reminds me of the Clorox commercial here the toddler tells his mom he went poo-poo and the momma gets all excited but discovers there is none in the potty. Upon further investigations she finds her sons “little package” in the bathtub.
When I began potty training my daughter I read up on the task in every parenting magazine and book I could get my hands on. Each one contained a different method. After awhile it all started running together and it seemed like an impossible feat that would never be accomplished. So I put the books down and decided to do I my way.
I went to the store and bought a few packages of M&Ms. I explained to my daughter, who was a 3 year old toddler at the time, that if she went pee-pee in the potty without incident she would receive 1 M&M and if she went poo-poo she would receive 2 M&Ms. Since I did not let her have a lot of chocolate then she was excited to be able to earn the candy she loved so dearly.
It didn’t take long at all before she was running to the bathroom to try to do the deed so she could earn her candy. She even went a few times when she didn’t need to so that she could try anyways so she could get more candy. So during all of this is when she told someone about her candy situation that I still laugh about today. We were having a playdate with a friend of mine and her daughter when my daughter started telling my friend about her potty training adventures. She went on about how she was a big girl now because she used the potty and it had to do with her “magic candy”. When she mentioned the words “magic candy” my friend looked puzzled. She asked my daughter what was “magic candy?” My daughter then told her it was magic because when she used the potty she got candy and then when she ate it she had to potty again. I started laughing cause my friend looks at me and says “you gave her laxative?”
I then had to explain the M&M reward system to my friend and explain how it was candy not magic candy to my daughter.
So do you have a funny potty training story? If so I would love to hear it. If it’s too long to leave as a comment you can email your story to my email or send it on Facebook. If you like I can share it on the blog so everyone can enjoy. When you share your experiences other parents benefit.
Food for thought!! Now that is a statement we can really think about after reading this. As a momma I’m always trying to make sure my kiddo is on top of everything. Now I’m not saying I’m perfect and that I have it all under control either. But when it comes to school performance as parents we want our children to have ever advantage we can guarantee them. What if I told you there was a way to boost your children’s performance at school before they even leave the kitchen table? If your like me then your brain is already turning and telling you that this sounds interesting.
It’s common knowledge that if your child it’s before they begin class then they are more likely to succeed in their work through the day. Of course this is common sense because a hungry child is not going to focus on what is going on in front of them, where as a child who is not hungry will be able to concentrate seeing as their bellies aren’t growling. But what if I told you there was more to it than just that little tidbit of information.
As a momma it’s normal for me to research something when I have it on my mind. Seeing as I like to find new things to eat for breakfast it occurred to me that maybe there was something to the healthy aspect of their food that may boost performance. So this where my researching compulsiveness came in handy. I googled breakfast and a students performance. That is where I found the following medical website. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3737458/
This website is a government medical site that has done experiments and research on this very topic. It says that children who have a health balanced breakfast are effected in their cognitive performance. Cognitive performance is what effects their domains of memory and attention. So breakfast has a positive effect on this. This research also states that the important meal of the day that has lower postprandial glycemic response is beneficial to children’s cognitive performance. So I take it that it boils down to sugar and carb intake at breakfast time. Which when I think about it as the less sugar and carbs in the morning the better chance our kiddo can focus and remember what they are learning. So I guess Frosted Flakes are out.
So this brings to light why we should make sure our children have a healthy balanced breakfast bringing in the food groups and cutting back on sugar intake. I know I’m going to be lowering the amount of sugar cereal my princess is taking in and bringing in more healthy choices in the morning time. It doesn’t hurt to try it the worse that can happen is they have a healthy meal.
So parentals what do you think? Do you agree with the view on less sugar and carbs the better a child’s performance? Or do you think this is taking our child’s academic interest a little too far? Tell us your opinion I know other parents would love to hear your views. Remember we aren’t alone out here there are parents everywhere and everyday they are like us trying to do the best they can at this job.
We have seen movies in the past of princess’ and princes’. We have watched The Muppets, Turkeys, Frozen and other characters come to life on the big screen. Now we are waiting patiently for May 2014 so we can see one of the favorite villains of all time Maleficent.
My daughter has been watching the commercial for weeks and every so often I hear a line from her. When I ask where she heard that she will inform me it’s from the movie coming out Maleficent. So I bet you can guess what momma will be standing in line when this movie hits the big screen? I’m hoping it will put a different spin on the usual children movies because the same thing over and over is getting old quick.
As soon as this movie comes out this momma will report her findings and rating. You can count on that!!
Below is the info on the movie if you haven’t been familiarized with it yet.
“Maleficent” explores the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the classic “Sleeping Beauty and the elements of her betrayal that ultimately turn her pure heart to stone. Driven by revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides, Maleficent cruelly places an irrevocable curse upon the human king’s newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Aurora is caught in the middle of the seething conflict between the forest kingdom she has grown to love and the human kingdom that holds her legacy. Maleficent realizes that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the land and is forced to take drastic actions that will change both worlds forever.
I know I’m a little later reporting back on the movie “Frozen”. I started to skip it seeing how late I am, but then when I was surfing the web a little I noticed that there was bad mouthing going on. I actually seen one site called it Satanic and was trying to turn our children.
Let me just say I totally 100% disagree!!! I watched this movie in theaters after I listened to my daughter beg and beg. I set through the entire movie all the way until the credits rolled by at the very end. This is one of my favorite children movies of the year so far. I’m actually waiting to see if Maleficent will top it!!
As an adult I laughed my butt off all the way through the movie and as I laughed so did my daughter. We enjoyed ourselves and I would watch it again. I enjoyed it as much as I would enjoy watching a film that I really wanted to see. If I had been to Wal-Mart yet I would have purchased it so we could watch it together at home. This is a movie for the whole family. If you don’t split your sides laughing through the whole film then there is something wrong!
Ok my friendly readers!!

Spring is here!!!
I don’t know about everyone else, but how many people see others go crazy for romance in the spring??? I mean think about it. It gets warm out and then everyone comes out of the woodwork holding hands, taking strolls, buying flower and etc.
I’m not saying I’m against I’m truly a romantic at heart no matter how many dating problems I may have. As a single mother I welcome the challenge of dating. Actually, my friends are starting a betting pool to see how fast they run off now. I mean really $100 if they make it a month and my other friend says he puts $50 on two weeks. We will see who wins!! It seems like they stick around until you bring out the tiny people and then it’s like you can almost see a whole in the wall where they run through it trying to run for their lives. Oh well who the hell said we had to have a life partner anyways?
So back to spring dating for the romantic ones. How many of my readers feel that romantic pull this time of year? I would love to know. Lets think of it as a research project. Come on let me see the raise of hands.
I know for a fact when I take my daughter to the park this weekend I will at least see 3 new couples that weren’t making out there this winter. It’s amazing. I mean think about it. OK if you don’t agree with me when you are sitting around this weekend doing nothing, no matter if you have kids or not, go out to the local park. Count the couples. Then report back here to let me know how many you saw. I almost feel like I’m putting people up to bird watching. I’m really getting into this spring fling thing that is going through peoples veins this time of year.
Hello Hello Hello Wonderful Readers!!
Once again it’s that time of year!! Easter is just around the corner so it’s time to break out the food coloring and create beautiful eggs to hide for the kiddos. If your anything like me then this holiday just starts to feel repetitive after awhile. Personally, I like to mix it up so that no one especially me the momma gets bored. So I decided to do a little research and I found the coolest thing ever to do with these eggs this year. I hope you find it as neat as I did cause I know I’m going to be all over this in a matter of days.
With this project you are going to transfer silk fabric on to eggshells with hot water and vinegar. Simple, but yet creatively fun!!
Step 1: For each egg, cut out a 5-inch square of patterned 100 percent silk. (We limited ourselves to black-and-white prints to achieve the effect above; colored patterns yield more vibrant results.) Lightly dampen the fabric, then lay it flat, right side up, and place your egg in the center. Gather the fabric tightly around the egg, like a beggar’s purse, and secure with a rubber band. Repeat this step for the same egg, using a same-size square of plain white cotton and a second rubber band. Note: Use blown eggs if you’d like to keep your handiwork longer.
Step 2: Place eggs in a single layer in a nonreactive pot and add enough water to cover them by 2 inches. Add 4 tablespoons of white vinegar. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 40 minutes.
Step 3: Remove eggs with tongs and cool about 20 minutes. Then unwrap the fabrics to reveal the exquisite designs.
Now you have beautiful eggs that the kids can enjoy. If you want to find out more or other ideas you can find the link to this project on my DYI page. Have fun with it.
Until next time have a Happy Easter!!!
Hello all!! I know I’ve been MIA for a bit, but I swear it wasn’t without thinking for a moment that I needed to update my blog. Throughout my short time as a bloggy momma I’ve ranted a little about mommas dating. Well I have come to report that this momma has a date!! Woo-hoo. It’s been a long road, but I traveled it and I won. Now this date isn’t just with any old joe this momma found a nice gentlemen. I mean really how many of them are left out there?? So my theory is correct you must kiss a hundred frogs to find your prince now lets just hope he is my prince. Wish me good luck all cause I’m hoping this is the one to stay. I’ll keep everyone informed as time goes on.
On another note!! I must say I have taken my little hair bow obsession a little further. I use the word obsession lightly because I have totally made it my point of interest for the last few weeks. I was so determined to open an online shop. Guess what? I did. It’s still a work in progress, but it’s up and running. So feel free to check it out. I would appreciate any word of mouth I could get. The best way to promote is through family, friends and bloggy friends. So if anyone is interested or would like to pass it on to friends here is the address to my online shop it’s called Kaely’s Bowtique named after my daughter. http://www.mystore.com/kaelysbowtique
Reflection!! As I sit here tonight and write all of this I have to say I’m reflecting on past issues. I know that through out the blog I have brought informative pieces, a little personal ones and others. Mostly though I don’t think I have been hitting on the personal pieces all that much. So I have decided to work on that more. As I sit and think about my life at times I feel it could be a day time TV soap opera. I also will not be leaving my blog un-attended that long again. I feel like I have missed so much. I hope everyone continues to come and read. Don’t be alarmed I didn’t drop off the face of the earth haha. Good bye for the day and I’ll be back to say hello tomorrow.
